Diabolik: a “cops and robbers”- style game.

Ares Games will attend Essen Spiel 2021 (October 14-17, Essen, Germany, Hall 3 E-100,) pre-releasing Diabolik - Heists and Investigations, an innovative hidden movement and deduction game inspired by a famous Italian comic series; Last One Alive, a fast and exciting zombie-survival dice game; and The Fate of Erebor, a “what if” mini expansion for War of the Ring board game. Attendees will also have the chance to try several recent releases and meet the game designers Ole Steiness, author of Last One Alive, and Francesco Nepitello, Marco Maggi and Roberto Di Meglio, authors of War of the Ring.

Diabolik – Heists and Investigations is a “cops and robbers”- style game for 2 to 4 players divided into two teams, playing as Diabolik and Eva (the Criminals) against Ginko and Morrigan (the Detectives). The robber couple designs and executes heists, using disguise and latex masks to complete these daring thefts. They move in the shadows, unseen by their adversaries, until to be identified by the Police; then the game becomes an open chase, where the criminals will be forced to flee on the main board, visible to all cops. Finally, it becomes a puzzle, when it comes time to complete the actual heists and investigations, with the two factions trying to achieve their respective goals.

Last One Alive: a fast and fun dice game.

In the fun dice game Last One Alive, 2 to 5 players try to stay alive as long as possible, while the zombies swarm all over the place. With simple rules and a nice bit of strategy, the game is played in turns: each player rolls a selection of dice to eliminate the attacking zombies or send them toward other players. If, at the end of a player's turn, any zombies are left, the player is overpowered and eliminated from the game. With the passing of time, the zombie menace grows stronger and stronger. The players’ elimination is not a big deal as a game runs fast, and they just wait a little to start a new game.

Last One Alive will be demoed by Ares’ crew during the show, and the game designer Ole Steiness will be at the booth for two Play with the Author sessions, on Thursday and Saturday, from 4 to 5 pm.

The Fate of Erebor mini-expansion.

The Fate of Erebor is a mini expansion for War of the Ring that creates an alternative scenario for the game, where the Battle of the Five Armies was lost by the Free Peoples, changing the course of history drastically. With a few, subtle changes, The Fate of Erebor “adapts” the game to this possible outcome, featuring a rule sheet, four board overlay tiles to place on the game board, and eight alternate cards. For the pre-release of this mini expansion, the game designers Francesco Nepitello, Marco Maggi and Roberto di Meglio, will be signing copies of The Fate of Erebor and other War of the Ring game and expansions at Ares’ booth on Friday and Saturday, from 2:30 to 3:00 pm.

Expansions for two of the best-selling Ares Games’ lines will also debut at the show, including Inferno and Familiars for Black Rose Wars, and the Ancient Chronicles Challenge Set and Nemeses for Sword & Sorcery.

Several other recent releases will have live demos at the booth, including Masters of the Night, Sword & Sorcery Ancient Chronicles, and WW2 Quartermaster General Second Edition, Mini Rogue and 300: Earth and Water. Other games expected to release in the coming months will be showcased, such as Orconomics 2nd Edition, The Thing: The Board Game and Quartermaster General 1914.
