Welcome back to the world of Sword & Sorcery! The previous articles presented an overview of the game and the Heroes. Now, it's time to take a look at the Enemies the heroes must face in their quest to save the world and win back their souls. As always happens when an evil power is unleashed, many lowly wicked creatures crawl to its banner, and many powerful enemies join the unholy cause. The world of Sword & Sorcery is no exception.

In Sword & Sorcery, enemies can have three different Ranks. The green enemies are the least powerful rank-and-file, hardly a challenge to the heroes except when in large groups. The blue enemies are stronger, and a match for most heroes, as they are more than capable of inflicting serious damage. Finally, the red enemies are the strongest type: powerful attacks and strong resistance are usually coupled with special abilities making these opponents a match even for a battle-hardened group of heroes.

There is a fourth type of enemies: the purple Master enemies. They are unique, extremely powerful opponents. Heroes will not face this kind of enemy in every adventure, as they are the true leaders of the evil forces, or very special creatures summoned at a great effort for the dark cause. In the basic game, the only two Master enemies are the fearsome Troll and the mighty Orc King, but the Kickstarter campaign presents a third Master enemy: the eldritch Undead Lord.

Gremlins

The first enemies the heroes will face are the Gremlins: horrible monkey-like creatures attracted to gold and gems. They band together to bring down larger opponents and steal their gold. While the green Gremlins are relatively easy to destroy, the blue ones have a nasty surprise for those heroes who wound them: sharp spines protrude when they are wounded, inflicting damage upon all heroes in the same area. The red Gremlins are quite dangerous due to their speed and reflexes, and they may attack more often than their smaller kin.

Gremlins can also be encountered as Hordes: the sheer mass of a Gremlin horde can become deadly to any hero, but Gremlins are cowardly creatures, whenever one of their ranks is slain, the others will attempt to disengage from combat.

Raiders

As the evil forces descend upon the civilized world, human Raiders will happily walk in their wake to steal and prey upon the weak; being intelligent enough, Raiders can and will use healing potions during the fight and poison their blades, much to the heroes’ dismay. Green Raiders are the weakest type, but they may be more than a challenge if met in group, due to their dirty tricks when fighting. Blue Raiders are competent dual weapon wielders, and the occasional red Raider can issue commands to other enemies during the battle.

Orcs

The highly skilled Orcs are a ferocious, relentless warrior race. They live to fight, and their voices shake the battlefield, invigorating their lines and reducing their enemies’ morale. Due to their combat abilities and their sheer size, all Orcs dominate the battlefield with their massive presence. The green Orcs, armed with axe and shield, are well-trained in defensive combat. Their blue relatives are prone to go berserk if wounded, inflicting more damage in battle. The red Orc leaders can also inspire any humanoid enemy, so their attacks become critical.

The Orc tribes are leaded by the strongest warriors, yet even the mightiest Orc warlord listens to the advice of their Shamans, the masters of magic. Orc Shamans are the “buffers” of Orc warriors in battle, and enemies to be wary of. Green Orc Shamans can resurrect green creatures, heal their allies, and curse the heroes, while the blue Shamans cast away their healing abilities to summon blue Gremlins and bolster their defenses. Finally, the powerful red Orc Shamans can protect themselves with their magic and resurrect any kind of monster.
