Another year, another bustling, ever-growing, record-breaking Gen Con Indy under our belts! With a sold-out attendance of more than 70.000 people, at booth #229 we had our fair share of work to do. As always, we had many, many demo tables and events, both at the booth and in the Event Hall. Between us and our partner Albi, the publishers of Dirt & Dust, we had more than 100 events in total, covering the full range of our game line! We could never do it without our show crew and the Double Exposure friends for their priceless help in organizing and managing everything, so our deepest thanks go to them.
One of the highlights in the Event Hall was the War of The Ring mega tutorial overseen by the amazing Erick Sipila held on Friday morning, which boasted eight tables simultaneously playing the game as Erick walked the newcomers through the rules – an impressive feat and a point of pride. It’s always beautiful to see that a game that has just recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary (surely, you’ll remember it…) still has such an impact on people, attracting new players and of course, bringing back older aficionados, year after year. This year we even had a guest appearance from Gandalf himself checking out the game, as you can see in the photo evidence!
Quite a few of our historic lines were playable during the events, however we didn’t just have our classic games with us, quite the contrary. We had new releases to show you all, and we are happy to say that you loved those, too. Dirt & Dust immediately sold out due to all the pre-sale pick-ups, and Perfect Mismatch was our best-seller of the show!
We also had some previews of upcoming games, Tedoku and WunderWaffen, which were showcased and presented to the press, and Viking Route, our latest Kickstarter project, which had its own demo table and was well received and played. It was a great chance for pledgers to try it out before it arrives on their doorstep! And if you tried it and loved it, too, don’t forget that late pledges are still open. One of our other notable new entries is the Tabula Games line, including the upcoming The Last Spell board game, which was showcased and playable for the entire duration of the show.
Lastly, it was a welcome surprise to receive the Board Game Quest Staff Pick award for the physical-digital hybrid game Light Speed: Arena, by Tablescope, which we released at the show. It’s always an honor.
To all our USA gamers, if you miss us already, fret not: the next occasion you can catch us is going to be Pax Unplugged, November 21-23. Mark your calendars! European fans will instead find us just before that in Essen, from October 23 to 26.
